Why a hosting company builds plugins
Hosting WordPress sites means seeing what slows them down. Again and again it is the same short list: images far heavier than they need to be, and plugins that do twenty things when the site needed one.
The plugins on offer were often more complicated and more expensive than the problem deserved, so we started building the tools we wanted to use ourselves.
What that experience changes
We know what shared hosting can and cannot spare. Compressing images is heavy work, so LeanPixel does it on our servers by default and leaves your site’s processor alone. We run that infrastructure ourselves, which is how the free plan is possible.
We also answer support requests for a living. Every setting a plugin adds is a question someone will ask, so ours have few of them and say plainly what each one does.
How we build
- One job each.
- A plugin for images, a plugin for backups, a plugin for security. Install only what you need.
- One screen, a few switches.
- If a plugin needs a tutorial, the plugin is the problem.
- Honest about trade-offs.
- Where an option is slower or saves less, the screen says so before you switch it on.
